Hello from Castleblayney

Hello everybody

Just checking in with all of you again after a very successful “Big Tom” weekend here in Castleblayney.

I must say I feel very tired but fulfilled that the unveiling of Big Tom’s statue was such a wonderful event.

The people came in there thousands and everyone loved what they saw. The love that I felt from everyone really made me feel so proud of this man that I call “My Friend”, both Tom and his wife Rose were there in spirit as I really felt their presence as our President Michael. D.Higgins and Tom and Rose’s Daughter Siobhan unveiled the statue which was sculptured by Mark Richards from England. Thank you Mark for your wonderful creation.

It was sight to behold, and then Keelan Arbuckle broke the silence as he sang “When Big Tom Sang Gentle Mother” written by myself and my good friend Joe McShane.

The McBride family were wonderful as this day was bitter-sweet for them having lost both their parents a short time ago.

Tom and Rose McBride were unique, a one off and I will never know the like of them again. Rest in Peace my dear friends.

I have a few special guest spots to do, the first one is “The Irish Country Stars Concert” in Treacy’s West County Hotel on Tuesday 2nd October,  many other artists appearing on the night including Trudi Lalor.

On the 4th and 5th of November I will be appearing at the Michael Commins weekend in the Clayton Hotel, Galway, many other artists appearing over the two nights.

On the 19th November I will be appearing as a special guest at the Shannonside/Northern Sound Concert in the Kilmore Hotel, Cavan.

Thats about it for this year as regards concerts.

Till the next time be kind to each other and take care

Love always

Hello everyone

Hi Everyone

It is time to touch base with you all again.

The summer is passing by so swiftly, the beautiful sunny days were a blessing.

Here is Castleblayney we had our Annual Mucho Mania Festival which was a wonderful weekend, things to do and see for everyone from young to not so young.

On the 6th August we had the Castleblayney Show which is held each year and was a huge success. Ciaran Rosney, Keelan and myself opened the show, over the years myself and Big Tom were there to open it, I missed him and Rose this year.

The next event here will be the unveiling of the Big Tom Statue on Sunday September 23rd at 3.00 p.m.and although it will be a wonderful event it will be a sad day for me and indeed the family and friends. I have imagined this day for many years as I always

believed Tom deserved this honour, however I was so sure Tom and Rose would be standing beside me on that day and I am heartbroken that they are both gone.

Tom and Rose were so honoured about the Statue, that it is fitting it goes ahead and will be there forever in memory of a wonderful man the King Of Country Music, my friend Big Tom.

I am doing a few guest spots over the coming months one in Treacy’s West County Hotel Ennis, Co. Clare with Trudi Lalor on the 2nd October  and two nights in the Clayton Hotel, Galway for the Michael Commins Sessions on the 4th and 5th November.

I look forward to November 24th where I am guest of honour at the Donegal Association Dinner in London. I know it will be a lovely night and that I will meet many people that I haven’t seen for many years.

I am so happy that young Keelan is doing so well and his song “When Big Tom McBride Sang Gentle Mother”  (written by myself and Joe McShane) has been so successful. Keelin sings with so much feeling and I wish him all the luck in the world as he deserves it.

Keelin will be there at the unveiling of the Statue and will sing his tribute song to Big Tom, it will be a special day for Keelin as it will be his 18th birthday.

Until the next time stay safe and well and be kind to each other

Love always

Hello everyone

Hello everyone

I have just returned from a lovely holiday in Malta where I totally chilled out, it was my first visit there and I loved everything about the Island. I spent some special time with Malta’s number 1 Country Singer Marisa D.amato and that was special. I went to two of her shows and she is wonderful and so versatile, one problem, Malta doesn’t realise how special Marisa is. We had a visit to Gozo and I got to see all the beautiful buildings and sights, it was a day to remember.

The day I got home I continued back to the Big Tom Statue project and it is looking wonderful.

I often sit and ponder on times Tom and Rose and I spent together and although they have gone to Heaven I know they are together and I will always have my wonderful memories and no one can take them from me, Rest In Peace both of you.

A young man from Co. Donegal Keelan Arbuckle has just released a song I had written with my friend Joe McShane in Chicago entitled “When Big Tom Sang Gentle Mother” a song we originally had written for Big Tom himself but sadly he never got to record it so we changed it to suit Keelan as Tom thought a lot of the young man and Keelan has made it his own and I am so happy for him, it is so nice to see young talent carry on our legacy.

I will be one of the many guests at the Michael Commins C.D. Launch night in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris on the 26th June, maybe I will see some of you there.

I do hope all of my fans and friends are well and happy, enjoy these summer months, and be kind to each other as time is so special and our lives can change in the blink of an eye.

I will be in touch with you all soon.

Take care

Love always

Surprise Guest at Gala Dinner Dance

A fabulous night in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran on Sunday for Sean Cuddy’s Gala Dinner Dance, it was part of a long weekend with entertainment every day and night. Sean invited me to be a surprise special guest, I really enjoyed the night. Thank you Sean for the beautiful flowers and the Genesis gifts.

Many people travelled from all over Ireland, England and Scotland for the weekend. I saw many people I had not seen for many years.

I sang a few songs including James Connolly which is requested everywhere I go, I told a few jokes and then sat down and enjoyed the evening.

Thank you Sean for inviting me.

Hot Country Awards Night

Hello everyone

What a fabulous night in the Mullingar Park Hotel  for the “Hot Country Awards” There was so much talent on stage, some newcomers to the music business which is so good to see. Myself, Philomela Begley, Mary Duff, Bernie Heaney, Trudi Lawler, Lisa McHugh, Nathan Carter, Jimmy Buckley, Derek Ryan, Declan Nerney, Marc Roberts, Crystal Swing and many other artists, all received an Award for their contribution to the music business.

I was honoured to receive two Awards, “Irish Country Music Hall Of Fame & Celebrating 50 Years In The Music Business” and “Album, D.V.D. & Book Combination “Promise And The Dream”

I was so happy that my cousin Oliver Bracken from Bayonne, New Jersey and his brother and sisters were my guests on the night. Thank you Oliver for making my night extra special.

I am going to Fatima with Sr. Consilio from “Cuan Mhuire”, it is a place where I have not been to so I will look forward to going there. That will be special to be in the company of Sr. Consilio.

It is hard to believe that my Mam’s first Anniversary is in a few weeks, it has been hard for me, I don’t seem to be able to come to terms with her passing, I never thought it would be so hard and I miss her so much.( R.I.P) We were so close and she confided in me about everything. We would talk five and six times a day, every day. I miss those phone calls and the chats.

I know that we all have lost loved ones sometime in our lives, and what an empty place that can leave. Time is a great healer, and that just what it takes, time.

I am only doing a few concerts this year to finish off my 50th Anniversary year. That is all I am able to do for health reasons.

I will keep you up to date with any news I have.

Take care

Love always
